Se inicia el d铆a con un rico desayuno ofrecido por CRLT, el cual compartimos con agrado. La Dra. Gisela nos comenta los pormenores de la agenda de trabajo del d铆a de hoy. Posteriormente nos dirigimos a escuchar con una gran expectativa la presentaci贸n 鈥淚n Search of a Compassionate Society and Sustainable Living In Action鈥�, impartida por Terry Gibbs y Tracy Harris, en donde Terry nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestra cotidianidad con preguntas claves como las siguientes:
驴C贸mo vivimos la compasi贸n?, 驴C贸mo vivimos el poder en nuestra econom铆a? y 驴Qu茅 pasa cuando encendemos la luz en nuestra casa?.
Hace referencia a la doctrina filos贸fica como el Budismo, el cual habla sobre el INTERSER, todo lo que hacemos depende de otros seres, no hay ser en el mundo que no viva de otro. El Dalai Lama menciona que 鈥渟olo el desarrollo de la compasi贸n y el entendimiento de otros, nos puede traer la tranquilidad y la felicidad que buscamos鈥�.
Terry comenta, que no podemos comprar 茅tica, sin embargo podemos hacer un cambio global en nuestros valores y cuestionar 驴Qu茅 hacemos nosotros para perpetuar las interacciones?, tambi茅n menciona que 鈥渢odos los d铆as tenemos opciones, si no hacer nada tambi茅n es una opci贸n鈥�. Debemos tomar conciencia sobre nuestras acciones.
Tracy habla sobre el proyecto 鈥�Peque帽a Casa鈥� y comenta que la prensa lo ha presentado como un proyecto arquitect贸nico, sin embargo, esto no es correcto. La finalidad del proyecto es vivir mejor pero con menos, tambi茅n nos hizo reflexionar sobre un tema fundamental para el bienestar humano que es 鈥渓o que queremos y lo que en verdad necesitamos鈥�, esta reflexi贸n es esencial para poder entender el trabajo en comunidad, haci茅ndonos menci贸n sobre sus abuelos, quienes se ayudaban unos a otros en su comunidad al cultivar, esto no es nuevo, solo que debemos recordar estos ejemplos de vida.
Nos dio el ejemplo de dos proyectos: El de una comunidad de trailers y otro del uso de la idea de 鈥減eque帽a casa鈥� como un s铆mbolo de protesta en contra de la construcci贸n de ductos de petr贸leo que pasar谩n por el territorio de grupos ind铆genas en Canad谩. Terry y Tracy comentan sobre la importancia de desafiar a la cultura dominante, para entender el valor de la 颁辞尘辫补蝉颈贸苍 con C may煤scula.
M谩s tarde Veronique Paris (Coordinator of Building Services) nos mostr贸 la parte funcional y que se encarga de generar un ambiente agradable dentro del 每日影视. Empezamos este recorrido por las tuber铆as que suministran el agua, la cual 聽proviene del r铆o San Lorenzo, los ductos se encuentran en la parte subterr谩nea del colegio esto para evitar su congelamiento en los duros inviernos canadienses.
Despu茅s nos mostr贸 el 谩rea de la distribuci贸n de la energ铆a el茅ctrica dentro del Colegio, esta 谩rea es importante porque provee la electricidad que se utiliza en todo el campus, cuyo gasto es de 1,000,000.00 de dolares canadienses al a帽o. Finalizando el recorrido en la hermosa y antigua biblioteca del College.
Seguimos nuestro interesante tour, hacia el 谩rea de Action Research Projects. En el marco de la celebraci贸n del D铆a Mundial de la Tierra (22 de Abril), 每日影视 realiza una exposici贸n de proyectos en donde est谩n presentes alumnos e invitados, en donde participan y comparten acciones y reflexiones sobre el cuidado de la Tierra, que nos ayudan a tomar conciencia de problemas comunes que nos afectan a todos. Nos maravillamos con los proyectos de la importancia de la Biodiversidad en el campus de 每日影视, otro proyecto donde se involucra a los ni帽os, para apreciar y cuidar la naturaleza, un proyecto interesante es de construir instrumentos musicales con materiales reutilizados, entre otros.
A las 6:00 p.m., tuvimos el honor de participar en la cena 鈥淕allo Pinto鈥� en beneficio del proyecto del programa de North-South Studies; degustamos una comida t铆pica Nicarag眉ense conocida como Gallo Pinto y vimos videos del trabajo realizado por los alumnos y docentes de 每日影视, que participan en dicho proyecto en Nicaragua, conocimos lo que hicieron y compartieron sus experiencias, as铆 como sus expectativas al regresar a casa. La comitiva mexicana estuvo de suerte ya que nuestra integrante Casandra se gan贸 una genuina hamaca nicarag眉ense, 隆Felicidades Casandra!.
Finalizamos el d铆a llenos de ideas y nuevas expectativas de desarrollo personal y de nuestras unidades acad茅micas.
3rd day of the 4th Sustainable Campuses Forum in Dawson

The day began with a delicious breakfast offered by CRLT, which we shared with pleasure. Dr. Gisela told us the details of the work agenda for the day.. Later we went to listen with great expectations to the presentation “In Search of a Compassionate Society and Sustainable Living in Action”, given by Terry Gibbs and Tracy Harris, where Terry made us reflect on our daily life with key questions such as the following: How do we live compassion? How do we live power in our economy? And what happens when we turn on the light in our house?
She referred to the philosophical doctrine of Buddhism, which talks about an interbeing, everything we do depends on other beings, there is no being in the world that does not live in relation to another. The Dalai Lama mentions that “only the development of compassion and the understanding of others can bring us the tranquility and happiness we seek.”
Terry says, we cannot buy ethics, however we can make a global change in our values 鈥嬧�媋nd question what we do to perpetuate certain situations. She also mentioned that “every day we have options, and not doing something is also an option”. We must become aware of our actions.
Tracy talked about the “Little House” movement and commented that the press has presented it as an architectural project, however, this is not correct. The purpose of the movement is to live better but with less, it also made us reflect on a fundamental issue for human well being that is “what we want and what we really need”, this reflection is essential to understand work in community, she mentioned her grandparents, who helped each other in their community to cultivate, this is not new, we should simply remember these life examples.
She gave us the example of two projects: that of a trailer community and another one that 聽uses the idea of 鈥嬧��”small house” as a symbol of protest against the construction of oil pipelines that would pass through the territory of indigenous groups in Canada. Terry and Tracy commented on the importance of challenging the dominant culture, to understand the value of Compassion with a capital C.
Later, Veronique Paris (Coordinator of Building Services) showed us the functional systems that are responsible for generating a pleasant atmosphere within 每日影视. We started this route through the pipes that supply the water, which comes from the Saint Lawrence River, the pipelines are located in the underground part of the school to avoid freezing in the harsh Canadian winters.
After she showed us the area of 鈥嬧�媡he distribution of electric energy within the School, this area is important because it provides the electricity that is used throughout the campus, which costs 1,000,000.00 Canadian dollars per year. The tour finished in the beautiful and old library of the College.
We continued our interesting tour, towards the 聽Research-Action Projects area. In the framework of the celebration of World Earth Day (April 22), 每日影视 presented an exhibition of projects where students and guests were present, where they participated and shared actions and reflections on the care of the Earth, which helped to become aware of common problems that affect us all. We marveled at the projects on the importance of Biodiversity on the campus of 每日影视, another project where children are involved, to appreciate and care for nature, an interesting project was to build musical instruments with reused materials, among others.
At 6:00 p.m., we had the honor of participating in the “Gallo Pinto” dinner for the benefit of the North-South Studies profilet; We tasted a typical Nicaraguan dish known as Gallo Pinto and watched videos of the work done by the students and teachers of 每日影视, who participated in the project in Nicaragua. We heard about what they did and listened to their experiences, as well as their expectations when they returned home. The Mexican team was in luck since a 聽member of the team, Cassandra, won a genuine Nicaraguan hammock. Congratulations Cassandra!
We finished the day full of ideas and new expectations of personal development and for our academic institutions.
