Grading Policy

A minimum grade of 60% is required to pass a course and indicates that the student has attained the minimum acceptable level of achievement of objectives as specified in the course outline.

See ISEP Appendix VI – Academic Honours Policy

In addition to a numerical grade, an incomplete (remark 鈥淚T鈥, incomplet temporaire) can be assigned where circumstances clearly warrant and where, in the opinion of the teacher, the work can be completed and the objectives of the course fulfilled.

See ISEP Appendix III 鈥 Procedure for Incomplete Grades

Students who demonstrate that they have achieved the objectives of the program at an acceptable standard in the Comprehensive Examination will have the notation RE (r茅ussi; passed) entered on their transcripts.

See聽ISEP Section IV-E – Policy on Comprehensive Examination

Evaluation is done in accordance with the department鈥檚 policies: see course outlines for specifics.

Students may NOT be able to receive any marks for work missed due to an absence. For example, the nature of the work within specific classes (such as working with the live model or group exercises) makes it impossible to make up in-class assignments.

See ISEP Appendix I 鈥 鈥淪tudents鈥 Rights and Obligations鈥 鈥 for further information regarding student responsibilities to the course.

In order to gradually prepare students to become reliable professionals, all projects or assignments must be submitted by their due dates. Course outlines and/or project handouts will specify the grade distribution for each assignment. Participation includes contributing to the class, offering ideas, asking appropriate questions, listening when others speak, and receptivity to feedback. Participation in critiques is vital in order to achieve a successful evaluation of the work.

Course outlines will specify the department鈥檚 Standard Grading Policy for Late Projects for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 as appropriate.

***Any project submitted after the last week of the semester will receive a zero grade. The teacher will specify the specific time for handing in the final project in each course (such as the beginning or the end of the last class).

STUDENTS AFFECTED BY DISABILITIES OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES THAT COULD NEGATIVELY AFFECT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

All students who are aware that their academic performance could be negatively affected by disabilities (physical or otherwise), disorders, conditions, or circumstances such as a family crisis are responsible to acknowledge this information immediately to individual teachers and to the chairperson of the department. This information will equip teachers to make allowance (if possible) for the students鈥 situation(s) in order to encourage the success of the student. Nevertheless, there are minimum criteria that all students must meet in order to pass each course, including students whose academic performance is negatively affected by disabilities or other circumstances.
